Announcements. new pages and updates as of 10 February, 2005

Dear Friends,

Once again this year The Randy Garibay Legacy Fund will be donating funds to local programs.  Three programs will receive a total of $3000 that was raised at The Second Annual Randy Garibay Legacy Fund Event that was held last year on December 3, 2004.    Saturday night, February 12, 2005, at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Valentine Oldies Dance, the first donation of $1000 will be presented to the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, Juntos en Artes-music education fund.  In the days ahead, gifts of $1000 each will also be donated to Corazon Ministries, Inc., a program providing valuable services to the homeless that was initiated and supported by Travis Park United Methodist Church and to Alpha Homes, Inc., which provides treatment services to low income women alcoholics/addicts and their families.

The Randy Garibay legacy Fund, a non-profit organization, was created in 2003 to carry on Chicano Bluesman Randy Garibay's legacy of great music and good works.  To date the fund has raised and will have soon distributed, a total of $9000.  The recipients of The Randy Garibay Legacy fund were chosen because they serve the people that Randy cared very much about in his life.  He loved music.  He believed that it was his love for and involvement in music as he was growing up that kept him out of trouble and gave his life direction and meaning and his music was a gift he gave to all of us.  The music education program at Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center carries on this important mission.  Randy was also a recovering alcoholic and he sought to help others who suffered from the desease of alcoholism. He was particularly supportive of Alpha Homes, Inc. and its good work in treating low income women alcoholics/addicts.  Randy also cared about the homeless people of San Antonio and gave of himself to those in need.  Corazon Ministries, Inc., provides essential services to this population.

Many thanks to everyone who made The Randy Garibay Legacy Fund's 2004 event successful and especially to all of you who supported the event and loved Randy and his music.

Sincerely,
Virginia Schramm
(Mrs. Randy Garibay)
